Asa Lee Lewis, Texas Ranger

Indian fighter dies, read the title of his obituary. Asa Lee Lewis was one in the Texas Frontier Forces. What a time he lived in. Drafted into the Texas Rangers (Ind. Sur. No. 13484) to do his duty to protect his community, he went out in November 1870 and returned in June of the following year.

Many men of the time and place did so as well.

He was born on July 19, 1849, near Anahuac, Texas.

He married Mary Matilda Sorrells on July 26, 1871 in Gonzales, Texas. They had seven children.
